Backfield In Motion

Backfield in Motion

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we’ve committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do “random questions,” so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don’t have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today’s questions!

Saturday 9: Backfield in Motion (1969)

Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.

1) This week’s Saturday 9 has a football theme because there’s a big game Sunday. Will you be watching?

Are the Browns in in it? No and No.

2) The Super Bowl is the second-largest day for food consumption in the US, second only to Thanksgiving. What’s on your menu this weekend?

Something simple. My husband has a bad back and i have no Knee… So, quick and simple is our rule of thumb!

3) Super Bowl Sunday is the #1 day for consuming guacamole. When did you most recently eat something with avocado in it?

Dogs can’t eat Avocado, so I only it it if we are dining Mexican OUT.

4) The Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton, OH. Have you ever visited Canton, or any other city in Ohio?

I live in Ohio! My niece worked at the Hall of Fame for a year during college. Now she is an agent for The Browns, so Cleveland all the time. I have been everywhere from Marietta ( b0ttom of Ohio) To Ashtabula ( Lake Erie). Geneva on the Lake. Family in Columbus…

5) This song mentions different moves that football players — and, it seems, girlfriends — can make that will result in penalties. What’s the last rule you broke? What were the consequences?

I’m a little confused here..

6) In 1969, the year this song was popular, the Colts lost to the New York Jets in Super Bowl III. The game is famous because of all the hype leading up to it, including Joe Namath “guaranteeing” his underdog Jets would win. Tell us about a time when you felt like an underdog.

It started on my first day of first grade. So, September 64. I was the lone red head in the first grade… Freckle Face Strawberry. Carrot Top, Raggedy Ann, Ginger…. see?

7) This week’s featured duo, Mel and Tim, are cousins from Mississippi. Tell us about one of your cousins. Her name is Susan. She  lives in the ATL. My sister and I try and make it down there once a year. Susan has sent us ‘help’ so we can order dinner out, several times since I have lost my knee. She was the one I looked up to my entire life. When Jim Croce died, I was home with chicken pox and called her CRYING! I was in middle school then. She came in her cool little VW Bug and took me shopping at the mall and out for lunch!!

8) The song is about a man who catches his girl cheating and he just won’t put up with it. In romance, do you find it easy to forgive and forget?

ONCE, one time in my life I had romance. But… I chose to give it up because even when I was 50 something, I wasn’t putting out for ANYONE. Gone through too much to stress when I knew he was coming to pick me up. I’m not a romantic person. I’m a great WALL BUILDER all around my heart.

9) Random question: You’ve collected a box of gently-used items to donate to a second hand store. What would it be most likely to contain: clothes, housewares, or books/video/music? Books. Videos. CDs… are those out of style? Our 16 Terrain didn’t even have a cd player! Next vehicle is going to be an Equinox. My thought is maybe it might  have a player .

Saturday 9: My Favorite Things (2018)

Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.
1) This week’s artist, Jennie Abrahamson, is very happy living in Stockholm, but she refers to Paris as “a flirt.” She enjoys her time there so much she always wants to return. Is there a place you’ve visited that tugs at your heart and imagination, tempting you to return?

Alpharetta GA.  I have such wonderful family there

2) Jennie has said her music has been heavily influenced by 80s pop, which was popular in her early teen years. Are your favorite songs the ones you listened to when you were growing up?

Most  definitely

3) “My Favorite Things” is from The Sound of Music. Crazy Sam’s high school claim to fame was playing Sister Margaretta in the senior class production. Though not a big part, her performance lives on because relatives love embarrassing her with pictures of her in an especially unflattering nun’s habit. Who took an embarrassing photo of you? What were you doing?

cant think of any off hand. I’m sure there are plety

4) The lyrics celebrate “brown paper packages tied up in strings.” What was in the last box you received in the mail?

Eddie Bauer fleece throw. omgosh. now I want to buy each of my nieces one

5) It mentions doorbells and sleighbells. What’s the most recent bell or alarm that you heard?

My alarm. I don’t really ever need to set an alarm unless its for doctors visits, but I just wanted to get up earlier and shower in the morning

6) This song has nice things to say about cold weather, specifically snowflakes and mittens. What do you like about winter?

I like the change. I’m not big on snow since living in CA, but I do love the change in seasons

7) Dog bites and bee stings are singled out as things that can leave us feeling sad. What’s most recently given you the blues?

my health.

8) In 2018, when this song was released, Roger Federer won the Australian Open. Are you good with a racket?

Noooooooo

9) Random question — Your local zoo announced the hatching of three snowy owlets. All males. You won the honor of naming them. Go ahead.

Sorry my page is kind of messed up. I’m not doing so great on my laptop. I cannot sit on a chair though to do it on my desktop!

65 Love Affair

Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.

1) The first line of this song is, “I was a car hop.” Car hops used to take orders and bring diners food to eat in their cars. Today, the drive through lane has pretty much replaced car hops. Think about the last time you went to a fast food restaurant. Did you order at the counter or at the drive through window?

DRIVE THRU.

2) Mr. Davis sings that his girlfriend was “bad with her pom-poms.” Presumably she was a cheerleader. Share one of your school’s cheers.

I wish I could! Too many years have passed and lack of interest …. you know

4) During his performing days, Paul Davis sported a full beard and flowing hair. We’re using that to check your powers of observation and recollection. Think of the last man you spoke to. Who was he? Describe his hair, and tell us whether he was clean shaven.

That would be my husband.. Long grey hair, long goatee and we use a blond shampoo and our greys just sparkle.

5) Paul Davis was born in Meridian, MS, and that’s where he returned to when he went into semi-retirement in 1982. Meridian’s biggest employer is the Naval Air Station in Meridian. Do you know anyone who is currently in, or employed by, the military?

Thankfully no! One of my cousin’s kids served and to be honest, I was scared every day, but not Gabe!

6) He was a pool player and a golfer. Which sport are you better at?

These days I don’t walk. Ive been homebound for months, and will be for months to come.

7) Sadly, he died in 2008, on the day after his 60th birthday. His best friend remembers him as “a homebody,” who enjoyed staying up long into the night with his friends, playing and listening to music. Describe your perfect way to spend an evening.

Well, like I mentioned I am home bound, so my husband and I are Perry Mason , Matlock and Netflix fans, these days. So thats what we do. I am unable to walk, so basically I sit on the couch or lay in bed and yell his name when its time for meds

8) The publishing rights to “’65 Love Affair,” as well as Paul Davis’ bigger hits (“Cool Night” and “I Go Crazy”), are owned by another Paul — Paul McCartney. Sir Paul’s MPL Publishing Company has made him a very rich man, and Paul says that’s because he chose to invest in music, something he loves. What about you? If you were to invest in a business or industry you love, which would you choose?

Well, I think Proctor and Gamble has made money for my brother, but if I were to invest money, I think it would be in Handles Ice Cream, or perhaps a successful SoCal chain that seems to be going national… but thats me.

9) Random question –You’re at a party and one of your host’s best friends is a real egghead who tries to draw you into a conversation about paradigmatic counter existentialism. Would you: a) just listen politely while letting your mind wander; b) admit you don’t know what the hell he’s talking about; c) explain why you personally feel that the counter existential paradigm just adds unnecessary complexity to the individual’s search for meaning?

I can BS the best of them.. so probably C !!!!
